Kimberly Thompson
BIOGRAPHY OF A LANDSCAPE PAINTER
Kimberly Thompson recently moved to Campbell River after being a long-time resident of Sooke, British Columbia. She started to develop her raw natural talent at an early age.  Born and Raised in Edmonton she was Influenced in her childhood by artistic family.   Kimberly was mentored her throughout her young life which started the process of her self-taught artistic career.  She began selling commission works while in middle school. By the time she graduated from high school, Kimberly had shown and sold pieces to many private collections as as well as a number of galleries in Edmonton including the Alberta Center of Education and Sunflower Gallery.

Upon graduation from high school Kimberly then found her life path led to the west coast in 1994 where she had frequented since age 4 and her primary inspiration continued to lie. It was she then that she began her shift from being a mixed media artist to strictly an acrylic painter.  Kimberly, who has a background in graphic and website design, has found that she needs to continue to have contact with the outdoors on a daily basis. Her education/career(s) in forestry, fire fighting and diving have enabled her to be physically surrounded by nature. This is where she finds her ideas, images and inspiration. These jobs afforded her the privilege of living for long periods of time in the most pristine, remote, and otherwise inaccessible areas of British Columbia.

Her style is constantly developing. Kimberly’s coastal abstract style, which has been compared to Tom Thomson and Emily Carr, is evolving to include some of her prairie roots. As always, the swirl and play of the art draws the viewer in to experience some of the intense physicality that is present on our Canadian wilderness. The raw power of Kim’s work is breathtaking!

Kimberly’s work can be found mainly across Canada, in Europe, and in the United States. In 2014, she was juried into the Canadian Federation of Artists .
