Much to our mutual delight, we have a fab feature today!
Here's a little history on the Jadeite and Vintage glass pieces you're about to lay eyes on.
The McKee Glass Company
In 1932 Pennsylvania-based glass company McKee discovered that by adding green glass scraps to their signature milk glass formula, they could create a gorgeous shade of green. They called one shade “Skokie” and the other “Jade” and later “Jadeite”.
The History of Jadeite
First created in the 1930s, jadeite is used for all types of things, but most commonly dishware and kitchenware. It first became popular in the Victorian era, then fell out of style for a time until World War II when glass companies found it could be stylish, plus affordable, to make. Now it's trendy again. Sure is!
Jadeite has a rich history and has been manufactured by several companies in the United States, each company having their own style, opacity and shade of green and is known by several names, one of which is Jadeite also known as Fire King. Jadeite is a glass tableware made of Jade green opaque milk glass.
Anchor Hocking is said to be the most well known manufacturer of jadeite with its Fire King line displayed various designs such as “alice”, “restaurant ware” and “charm”. Anchor Hocking was founded by Isaac J. Collins, in 1905, near Lancaster, Ohio started manufacturing Fire King Jadeite in the 1940’s producing the most output between 1945 and 1975. Jadeite is very durable, functional and fun looking making it the most popular product Anchor Hocking has ever produced.
