Limited Edition Handcoloured Drypoint Engraving #76/500 - "Red Ginger" Numbered, Titled and Signed in Pencil by Hawaiian Artist Steve Strickland - Black Oval Mate with Gold French Line in a Gold Wood Frame - 10.5" W x 13.5" H
Steve Strickland
A native of Whitakers, North Carolina, came to Hawaii in 1974 when he was 25 years old. He began his professional art career in 1978 on the island of Maui, Hawaii doing the art of scrimshaw.  A pioneer in the revival of the art of scrimshaw, Steve honed his talent by spending thousands of hours engraving whale ivory. "I couldn't have chosen a better apprenticeship," says Steve. He has since become proficient in other mediums including the art of engraving for intaglio prints, oil, acrylic, and watercolour painting. "Those years of engraving ivory prepared me for my drypoint work on copper." Strickland is one of a handful of Intaglio artists who have persevered with this demanding art form.
